COTRI was originally founded as Church on the Rock – North America to provide a network of related and churches and ministries.
From the original COTR-NA Bylaws comes the following excerpt denoting
the vision imparted by God for the establishment of what would become a
thriving, successful international ministry organization, a worldwide,
mission-based network of over 4,000 affiliate churches.
“God
has impressed upon the hearts of both Dr. Larry Lea and Dr. Lawrence
Kennedy that the local churches need to be related in some way; that a
meaningful relationship, or partnership, should be established among
them. We believe that Church on the Rock – North America, ‘COTR-NA’,
will provide an excellent opportunity for local churches all across
America to establish these relationships. It is our desire to have
1,000 churches actively relating to on another by the year 2000.”
When Dr. Larry Lea stepped down at the President and leader of COTRI,
it was a natural, yet God ordained succession that Dr. Lawrence Kennedy
would assume the leadership of what would become a leading
organization with a global ministry reach.
